A look at some free quality Gimp brushes you definitely should have in your brush collection. Including smoke brushes, glow brushes and splatter brushes.
Note: Did you know that Gimp works with a lot of Photoshop brushes as well as Gimp brushes? In this brush roundup all the brushes have been tested with Gimp 2.6. to make sure they work in Gimp.

These glow brushes can be used for a lot of designs, I especially like them in designs with black or dark backgrounds. These brushes are created by Hawksmont, one of my favorite brush creators. Also pretty huge brushes (1000px).

I find floral brushes surprisingly useful, as you may have noticed, the image I use for the how to install Gimp brushes tutorial has some of these floral brushes.

And finally some neat smudge brushes by antivuskning.
These ones are good for, well, creating smudge effects! Particularly handy for backgrounds.
